Program Tiers & Pay Rates
Tier 1: Work Readiness & Career Exploration

Ages: 14-15
Pay: $10 per hour
Hours: Up to 100 hours
Focus: Career exposure, employability skills, and academic support in a structured setting.

Tier 2: Work Experience

Ages: 16+
Pay: $12 per hour
Hours: Up to 130 hours
Focus: Career skills development through hands-on work experience with employers and mentors.

Tier 3: Work-Based Training

Ages: 18-24 (Out-of-school youth) with limited positions available.
Pay: Up to $15 per hour
Hours: Varies, work period runs June 2 – August 31, 2025
Focus: Career training and real-world work experiences in business and industry.

Eligibility & Application Process
Eligibility Criteria
Age: 14-24 (as of the first workday)
Residency: Must reside in Allegheny County or the City of Pittsburgh.
Income: Must meet income requirements (see below).
Application Steps
Confirm eligibility: Age, residency, and income requirements.
Complete the online application at jobs4summer.org and upload required documents.
Obtain a Work Permit (if under 18).
Complete Orientation with a provider to finalize hiring.

Income Guidelines (Maximum Household Income)
For the last 6 months / 12 months:

1 person: $28,350 / $56,700
2 people: $32,400 / $64,800
3 people: $36,450 / $72,900
4 people: $40,475 / $80,950
5 people: $43,725 / $87,450
6 people: $46,975 / $93,950
7 people: $50,891 / $101,781
8 people: $56,674 / $113,348
For additional people: Add $11,567 annually or $5,784 for 6 months.

Required Documents for Application
(One document required for each category)

Age Verification: Birth certificate (recommended), Driver’s license, State ID, Passport, Green Card, or Naturalization Certificate.
Social Security Number (SSN): Social Security Card (recommended), official SSN printout, or Compass Report.
Citizenship Status: Birth Certificate, Passport, Green Card, or Employment Authorization Document.
Address Verification (dated within the last 6 months): School record, Driver’s License, State ID, Utility Bill, Lease Agreement, or Compass Report.
Household Income Verification (dated within the last 6 months): Paystub (recommended), Pension Statement, Unemployment Letter, or Compass Report.
Work Permits: Required for youth under 18. Must be uploaded to the application.


Work Permit Directory
Youth under 18 must obtain a work permit from their school district. The packet includes a list of school districts with instructions on how to apply.

Example:

Pittsburgh Public Schools: Submit application and proof of birthdate via email to studentservices@pghschools.org.

Participants will be placed with a provider who manages job sites. Providers include:
