Keyla, a dedicated 30-year-old single mother of four children (ages 10 through 16), enrolled in EDSI Allegheny EARN program on October 3, 2022, where she met her employment consultant, Andrew Simpson. Together, Keyla and Mr. Simpson, one of EDSI’s newest employment consultants, explored Keyla’s professional interests, training goals, and barriers she faced to employment and training.
Since Keyla wants to improve her English literacy—her primary language is Spanish—Keyla’s employment consultant referred her for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provided through our partnership with Literacy Pittsburgh. Literacy Pittsburgh is an organization that provides free educational services for adults and families in Allegheny County.
Through organization, good time management, hard work, and persistence, Keyla continues to engage in her ESL classes while exploring employment opportunities with Mr. Simpson. Keyla has expressed interest in attending South Hills Beauty Academy. Upon completion of her ESL training, Keyla plans to apply to the academy, and our team is prepared to assist her with this process.
Keyla has worked extremely hard to improve her life and the lives of her children by pursuing English language classes, thereby raising her confidence in the workforce and making her a more competitive candidate for employment opportunities. We recognize and congratulate both Keyla for her hard work and achievements and Mr. Simpson for his dedication to Keyla’s success.
