Welcome to the "10 Stories for 10 Years" series, where we highlighted the transformative impact of the Learn & Earn program by sharing 10 stories from the 10th year of Learn & Earn. Through a collection of inspiring stories and interviews, we celebrate the achievements and journeys of those involved in shaping and benefiting from this program! Below you will find all of the stories we did for the summer of 2024.
Laura Ellsworth: The Origins of Learn & Earn
We kicked off the series with a video featuring Laura Ellsworth, former Partner4Work Chair and Partner-in-Charge of Community Initiatives at Jones Day. Youth Congress
As part of the Learn & Ear 10 Stories for 10 Years we were excited to feature interviews highlighting the Allegheny County Youth Congress.
Pittsburgh Pirates
We learned more about the impact of the corporate side of Learn & Earn with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Listen to our interview with Learn & Earn participant Johanna Perry who was an intern during this summer. You'll hear about her journey as well as the impact she has left of the Pirates organization from the Pirates Director of People and Culture, Zachary Perry.
National Aviary
We ended our 10 Stories for 10 Years series with Suhaylah Ahmad Ali who interned at the National Aviary! Suhaylah was been a multi-year participate of the Learn & Earn program. Her story of growing herself year after year with the program has been a testament to how impactful Learn & Earn and the amazing experiences and organizations they get to be a part of.
City of Pittsburgh
This summer, the City of Pittsburgh opened its doors to welcome Learn & Earn youth participants, offering them a unique opportunity to experience public service and civic engagement firsthand.
The Homeless Children's Education Fund connected two of their Teen Career Exploration Opportunity program participants, supported by the Benedum Foundation, to this transformative opportunity. Along with gaining experience in political fields the youth also participated in career readiness and life skills training at Carlow University, guided by the dedicated HCEF Teen Outreach team and financial literacy from Jason Jones of Dollar Bank.
Auberle Employment Institute, an organization and service provider with a proven track record of building strong individuals, families, and communities also placed youth at the City of Pittsburgh. Auberle's dedication to creating high-quality workforce experiences for their participants has set the youth on a path to success.
