Empowering Futures at the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh

During the first ever National Youth Apprenticeship Week, the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh (TIP) welcomed Nancy Walker, Secretary of the PA Department of Labor & Industry, for an insightful visit that highlighted the institute’s key role in fostering an inclusive and thriving workforce within the trades. The visit was led by TIP’s Executive Director, Donta Green, and included James Martini, Executive Director at the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board, and our COO, Susie Puskar.

A highlight of the visit was the participation of pre-apprentices Larry Shane Quinn and Osavio Martin, who shared their experiences and the opportunities that TIP has provided them. Their stories underscored the impact of TIP’s comprehensive approach to training, which not only includes technical skills in trades like masonry and carpentry but also life skills that prepare them for successful careers.

The event showcased how TIP and Partner4Work collaborate to empower individuals, particularly focusing on integrating more women and underrepresented groups into the trades. The engagement of pre-apprentices like Larry and Osavio during the visit provided real-life testimonials to the efficacy of these programs in creating career pathways that lead to meaningful employment and community enhancement.

At Partner4Work, we are proud to support the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh as they transform lives through education and training. This visit reaffirmed our commitment to workforce development and our belief in the transformative power of apprenticeships.
